Instagram Embeds Overview

An introduction on how to connect, embed content and disconnect your Instagram account

Written by Emma Armstrong

With Circuit, you can embed your Instagram content into the virtual tour in scenes and hotspots.

In this article, you will learn how to connect and disconnect your Instagram account as well as how to work with the embedded Instagram content.

Connecting Your Instagram Account

Before using Instagram embeds, you must connect your Instagram account via the link generated in the embed section of the CMS.

  • Notes: Only Business or Media Creator Instagram accounts can be connected. If your account is not one of these types, the authentication flow will prompt you to convert it. The first time an account is connected, the system will only import the latest 50 posts.

  • Plan Limits: The number of accounts you can connect depends on your plan:

    • Core 1 account

    • Core + Engagement 3 accounts

    • Premier, unlimited accounts

Steps for Connection:

  1. From the Circuit CMS dashboard, click into the Embeds tab

  2. From there, click the Import From Social button in the top left corner to open the account connector.

  3. Generate the unique links that you can share to connect accounts.

    • Each unique link is tied to only one Instagram account. If you need to connect multiple accounts, you must create a separate, unique URL for each one.

  4. Copy the link to connect your account

  5. Follow the authentication process

  6. The new account will appear on the embeds page after authentication.

Working with Instagram Posts and Creating Embeds

Once connected, you can convert Instagram posts into Circuit embeds.

  1. Click on the connected account on the Embeds Page to view the saved posts. Loading the posts may take a couple of minutes the first time.

  2. Identify Post Types: Posts will display icons to indicate the content type:

    1. No icon: Photo

    2. Icon: Carousel or Video

  3. Select the posts you want to convert and refresh the page to create the embeds. Posts that have already been converted will be grayed out and cannot be selected again.

Adding Embed Content to a Scene

  1. From the Scenes tab, either create a new scene or navigate to the scene you want to add an embed to, and click Edit

  2. From the scene editing window, depending on what type of scene you have chosen, you will have different options:

    1. Matterport Scenes can have embeds added to their Guide Card Content. Click Embed and then choose an Instagram Embed. You can then choose an embed from your Embed Library

    2. 360 Scenes can have embeds added to their Guide Card Content and hotspots, in the same way as outlined with Matterport

Gallery Scenes will require you to add an embed by clicking + Add and then adding the main gallery Media. For every new gallery slide you add onto the gallery scene, you will need to add another image or embed

Disconnecting Your Account

  1. To disconnect the account, press Embeds from the navigation panel

  2. Then select Import From Social

  3. From there, hover over the right-hand side of the account you wish to disconnect and select the ⊖ button

Follow the instructions and press Yes to successfully disconnect an account

Disconnection Note:

  • Disconnecting an account will not delete any existing embeds that were created from that account's posts.

  • Disconnecting an account will delete the archive of posts that were imported but were not converted into embeds.

  • If you reconnect the account, you will only regain access to the latest 50 posts, and any older posts that were previously archived will be lost.

  • You may load one account, create embeds for the posts you need, disconnect it, and then connect another account. However, the archive of un-embedded posts from the first account will be deleted.

Important Limitations:

  • Caption/Post Changes: If the caption on the original Instagram post is changed, the embed will not automatically update. To force the change, the original post must be deleted and re-posted to generate a new post ID.

  • Older Posts: To embed posts older than the 50 most recent ones, you would need to delete the original post and re-post it on Instagram, which forces it to be included in the latest 50 and imported into the archive.
