Setting up and editing your Matterport embed

This article reviews the steps and best practices for setting up and editing your Matterport space embed in your Matterport account.

Once your Matterport spaces have been captured and uploaded to your account, you can edit some elements and add Matterport tags before embedding it into your Circuit virtual tour. As Matterport offers its own native tools, it is important to understand how they work alongside Circuit's platform.

Account Access: During the build phase of your tour, Matterport account access is limited to 1 email address per team. If you need to make edits to your Matterport settings or tags after your initial Matterport building is complete, reach out to your Customer Success Specialist, and we will be happy to support reinstating your access.

Before Editing: Capture and Uploading

If you haven't already captured or uploaded your Matterport scans to your account, make sure to complete that first, before planning your edits.

Editing: Tags, Starting View, Display, and Sharing

Log in to your Matterport account and verify that all your spaces are present. Ensure you complete the following steps for each one of your spaces.

1. Matterport Space Setup and Verification

Before you begin editing the captures, verify these settings for each space to ensure your embed shows as expected.

For each space:

  1. Update Sharing Status: For the space to be visible when embedded into the Circuit CMS, the space visibility must be set to Unlisted (or Public). If it is set to Private, the embed will display an error to your visitors.

  2. Update Space Details: Rename the space to a clear, direct name (e.g., "Student Center - Main Floor"), so your team and visitors can easily identify it. This will display on the Matterport embed in your tour.

  3. Blur Personal Information: The primary editing tool is Matterport’s built-in Blur Brush to hide any visible photos, room numbers, or sensitive information that were accidentally captured during the scan. Please note that this is a permanent edit that cannot be reversed.

2. Configuring Display

Adjusting the display of your space allows you to adjust how the Matterport model is viewed inside a Circuit scene. Click Edit when viewing a space to enter Workshop mode.

  • Set the Start Location: Navigate to the exact spot and camera angle where you want visitors to begin. Click the Start Location icon (the person symbol) and click Update to save this as the starting view.

  • Manage UI Features: Go to Settings (the gear icon) to toggle specific viewer features on or off:

    • Measurement Tool: Turn this on if you want users to be able to measure walls and floors.

    • Search Function: Enable or disable the search bar inside the Matterport player.

    • Dollhouse/Floorplan Views: Choose whether visitors can zoom out to see the 3D dollhouse perspective.

3. Adding and Customizing Matterport Tags

Matterport Tags (sometimes called Mattertags) allow you to add text and a photo to specific highlights in your space.

To add a tag:

  1. In Edit mode, click the Tags icon (the circle with a stem).

  2. Click the exact physical location in the 3D model where you want the tag to sit.

  3. Add your Title, Description, and Media.

To customize the tag's appearance:

  • Stem Length/Height: Use the slider in the tag settings to adjust how high the tag floats above its anchor point

  • Color and Icon: Change the color of the tag to match your branding, or change the icon of the tag to indicate what kind of content is inside the tag.

Accessibility Best Practices: Because Matterport Tags live entirely inside the Matterport embed, they are not included in Circuit’s Audio Guide or Multi-Language Translation features.

If you want your text to be narrated or translated into other languages, include the critical information inside the Scene Guidecard to ensure your information is visible and included in your audio and multi-language features.

4. Sharing your Matterport space and creating a Matterport Embed Scene

Your Matterport space is embedded into Circuit using the simple URL found under the Share button of each space. To share your Matterport space,

  1. Open the specific 3D model you want to embed into your Circuit Matterport scene.

  2. Click Share (in the upper-right corner of the screen, located beside the Edit button.

  3. Confirm the model's status is Unlisted. This ensures anyone with the exact URL can view and embed the space into Circuit, but it remains hidden from search results outside of the virtual tour.

  4. Click Copy Link to grab the shareable URL. You are now ready to paste this link directly into the Matterport embed scene.
